Growth in Q2 was primarily driven by an increase in government spending . By comparison, private demand was poor over the quarter, with household spending growing marginally and business investment pulling back sharply (following strong growth in Q1).

UK GDP grew by 0.3% q/q in Q2 2025, beating consensus estimates of 0.1%. Nonetheless, this marked a slowdown from the 0.7% growth seen over Q1 2025

The Bank expects CPI inflation to remain elevated this year, with a peak of 4.0% in September. Subsequently, inflation is projected to gradually return to the 2% target, but the MPC warned that upside risks to the outlook had risen since their last forecast in May

The Bank of England’s latest forecast expects economic activity to remain subdued, with GDP growth projected to be 1.25% in both 2025 and 2026. Growth is then set to pick up slightly to 1.5% in 2027
