The UK would not get out of ECHR-duties for proper investigations into human rights violations prior to the GFA by just leaving the ECHR.

Changes to GFA institutions, as with the 2006 St Andrews Agreement, were made through bilateral mechanisms. Even if the UK followed Russia out of the ECHR, they would still be legally bound by the Convention for the period they were members.

Not a year can go by without someone in the Tory party wanting to follow in the footsteps of Vladamir Putin and leave the ECHR. The GFA incorporates a bilateral treaty between two states, approved by referendum, it cannot simply be unilaterally re-written by Suella Braverman.

We are in Supreme Court today, in the appeal by the Secretary of State to try and once again block the coroner from releasing information to the Thompson family about what happened to their loved one, Paul Thompson, 30 years ago. It is time for truth.
