Human rights and the Tory policies aren’t “party political” they’re inhumane…

Presumably BBC will be asked to explain which of its guidelines were broken and why other regular presenters, contributors, comedians, actors who tweet political views are not in breach. Hard to see Lineker coming back now.

Full @GaryLineker statement. - BBC considers his social media remarks a breach of guidelines - BBC told Lineker to step off MoTD duties until agreement on social media use - Have told Lineker he should keep away from “taking sides” on party political/controversial issues

Personally I'd suggest Gary Lineker for a knighthood but I guess he never broke a woman's nose.

If I was worried about people comparing me to 1930s Germany, my next move probably wouldn't be to shut down all criticism on the national broadcasting service

I handed in my notice at my FOH job & I’ll be sad to leave this lovely team. In the last 5 weeks, 20+ FOH have signed up to join @bectu. I’ve been told this is rare and it’s so important. Improvements happened so quickly when we paid attention to our terms. JOIN YOUR UNION ✊🏼

Dear @BBC. In the interests of fairness could you please now ask @Lord_Sugar to step aside from @bbcapprentice . Otherwise people may wonder if you are truly impartial @GaryLineker

Gary Lineker makes a comparison with 1930s’ Germany where dissent is silenced. And his dissent is silenced.

This is exactly the sentiment I have. I love the BBC and will fight for a publicly funded neutral broadcaster. Unfortunately the BBC have lost that standing recently. It our fault ultimately that the BBC don’t feel protected that we will stand with them for impartiality.

As a strong supporter of public service broadcasting, I want to be able to defend the BBC. But the decision to take @GaryLineker off air is indefensible. It is undermining free speech in the face of political pressure - & it does always seem to be rightwing pressure it caves to
