With cheap disposable crud everywhere, it's so gratifying to fix broken things.

My shop is a double garage w/big open door except in Winter. Birdsong feels heaven-sent during meditative, repetitive parts of a build process.
The birds are my favorite background music while I work. Cleaning headstones is so satisfying. :)

Switching mediums or materials deepens your practice and sharpens skills. Stained glass window crafting requires precision, so I make mosaics to freestyle and find the two crafts speak to each other and elevate my game. This is electric ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Working fast and loose with my chalks on big sheets of butcher paper. Out of the comfort zone of detailed oil work, very freeing.

Her arm looks like a tube sock, but the light was right, so I got the pic even though we weren't finished fixing this. In our era of cheap plastic, it felt great to fix a big, beautiful broken thing.

Contemporary "progress" is degrading. Handheld computers in our pockets make life better like canned food and TV dinners, which is to say that for convenience’s sake whole living systems are destroyed. I craft by hand. There is no substitute
Affirm: I will not peddle slop. I will write my own poetry. I will not cite AI hallucinations in my essays. I will not let the AI hype cycle treat my creative work like a glitchy software that needs constant updates. I will not trade my humanity for profane aims like efficiency
