His son was the dean of Architecture at Rice, then at UT. His grandson, also an architect, has a serious TX accent, & his nickname?. Correct. It’s Bubba.

ā€œMy heartā€ the old man said, in an almost unintelligible Japanese accent, ā€œis a volcano. This garden is the love that flows like lava from my heart. Love for humanity, for peace.ā€.Isamu Taniguchi, interned in TX during WW2, built this Austin landmark out of gratitude.

I’m working on this house like I’m making some extravagant meal where all the dishes must be ready at exactly the same moment. One thing at a time?.Boring. šŸ¤ŖšŸ™ˆ

No, friend. Thurmond switched parties in ā€˜64. Spurging wildly, and blocking doesn’t change reality.

What is more tiresome, the taqqiya of the alleged refugee, or the pretense of reasonableness from a leftist?.

…were ā€˜indios’ from the Mayan highlands, conscripted by Santa Anna, the ā€œNapoleon of the Westā€. And the defenders of those walls fancied themselves Mexicans. Both sides flew the Mexican flag. The defenders painted 1824 on it, the ratification date of their constitution.

…their visions of what ā€˜should be’ was torn to pieces in front of them. War will always expose how man avails himself of his Heart of Darkness. We complain at the ocean about it though. And yes, the walls of the Alamo were charged by barefoot, raggedy-clothed men, but they šŸ‘‡.

…any romantic ideas that an army will win because it is more virtuous, even as it is being destroyed. No doubt, early Anglo & German settlers on the Llano Estacado - lured to Tejas by Mexico to provide a buffer from the Comanche in the ā€˜Borderlands’ - prayed and begged as šŸ‘‡.

…themselves would matter not one whit. Bigoted pov’s about cultural supremacist ideas are, here, like complaining about the ocean. The ocean simply is. Complaining will not save you from drowning. Being outraged at the brutal efficacy of Kurtz’s small army is similar. As is šŸ‘‡.

…destroyed. The Comanche were excellent warriors. Also, they would tear your children apart to amplify your dismay before they skinned you alive. Your romantic visions of your intent with your family were of no consequence to this reality. Insisting they should be ashamed of šŸ‘‡.

When Brando’s Kurtz described his epiphany, looking at a pile of vaccinated arms, he longed for a fighting force with this sort of will. Here, in the Permian, near Lubbock, where the Comanche were unconquerable, I’m reminded of how easily the most beautiful sand castle is šŸ‘‡.

It’s human, so of course it’s not simple. The history I was taught, the squads of barefoot Mexican soldiers, in rags, running ladders at the walls of the Alamo, defended by Texicans - no, not quite. Truth is here warped away from Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, toward romanticism. 🧵

I derided dad, a petro futures trader, bc he made nothing. Life w/him made me a news junkie, as Platt’s spot price for sweet light crude was influenced by… everything - šŸ¦‹effects explained from the front seat, on the way to school. He made a padded room for his phlegmatic son.

ā€˜Splain yer handle:. Coming home late from a little league game, I was pedaling like mad to stay ahead of the mosquito fogging truck. The driver was close enough to read my jersey in his headlights & yelled, ā€œGo, Bubba, Go!ā€.Been flaco, still flaco despite my queso consumption ✊.

Explain your TWITTER handle:. My name is Brandon Hannibal Donkey. I should clarify, Hannibal is not Hannibal Lector or Hannibal Smith from the A-Team but Hannibal Barca, a Carthaginian general who marched his army over the Alps to invade Roman Italy.

Fear the magick. The fellowship of choral singing hints at its essence. The unisong embraces, freeing the individual voice from responsibility - drowning the very need for responsibility, & requiring nothing but absolute adherence. A tree doesn’t choose to follow the rules.

Spiritual warfare? šŸ™„. Let’s see. Here was the victory of Life, literally held up by a beaming father - one who has hoped for Life, at depth, & here he is. ā€œNo!ā€ says Wallace. Imagine he kĀ”IIs himself. Imagine him dead. (keeping the boy’s pic up). She must replace your espritšŸ§Ÿā€ā™€ļø.

Still can’t get over Nicolle Wallace saying she hopes the 13-year-old with brain cancer doesn’t kill himself after getting assaulted by Trump supporters. Might be the most odious thing I’ve ever heard on cable news. Totally broken-brained punditry.

…wonders, ā€œHave I been fooled?ā€.it’s time to claim a beachhead against the lie that the far right = fascism. Don’t accept this. The farther right I go, the less authority I give to anyone but me, the individual. The far right is NO govt. Fascism is not ā€œno govtā€, savvy? ✊.
