It's important to us to support our whole community in their quest to know our native plants by offering low- or no-cost programs. Every contribution helps!!! Please consider donating: https://t.co/kOBuceVzZH 2/2

Your donation during our Annual Spring Fundraiser is what makes our mission to engage people in hands-on native plant education possible. Early spring is a busy time here, but our plant sales don't...

It's that time of year! Fundraising is critical for launching each new season. It’s been a long winter since our last plant sale, and our spring budget impacts not only our spring cleaning but also our plans for programming in the upcoming year. 1/2

Even if Elderberry isn't something you want right now, come anyway to enjoy community and some fresh air. You never know what else we'll find growing around here! Participants are not obligated to stay until the end of day, stay only as long as you want. 3/

It's a beautiful plant with a lovely fragrance and edible berries. It also forms thickets, and we are removing two of our thickets to make room for maintenance around the new community growing space. There will be more rhizomes than you can imagine, so plenty to share. 2/

Come and learn about our native Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis)... and take some plants home... for free! We have signups for 2 days (Saturday and Sunday). We're taking advantage of this beautiful weather to invite people to help thin out our bounty of Elderberry. 1/

And with this careful process we participate, along with our ancient and powerful partners, wind and fire, in nurturing a diverse community that we call prairie. 4/4 #prairie #stewardship #nature #prescribedfire #prairiefire #kansas #prescribedburn #nativeplants

A beautiful team (including 2 not pictured) and a portable watering system for keeping mowed firebreaks wet are the only reasons we can light any ferocious head (carried with wind) fires with this much standing dry grass. 3/

We lit slow backing (into the wind) fires to create generous “black lines,” and we carefully monitored shifting wind. 2/

Caring Community. We’re grateful that people came together on this perfect day to care for the prairie. Creating a patchwork of habitat in this relatively small prairie with lots of standing fuel requires careful planning. 1/

These warm winter days are awesome for drawing me into the garden…and then I want to clean things up. But it’s too soon, right? In general, I think the answer is yes, let’s leave as much as we can for pollinator habitat. #nativeplants #nativeplantgarden #gardenmaintenance

I had the great privilege to draft a statement of need for the local non-profit Botanical Belonging. They're currently looking for sponsors, partners, and donors for the 2024 season.

First flowers. Missouri native Vernal/Ozark Witch-Hazel (Hamamelis vernalis) seems to agree with the famous groundhog. Spring is in the air…at least today. These delicate little petals don’t mind the cold. If winter returns, they simply curl up and wait for another warm day.
