If @MountPleasantWI or organizations ever acquired this farmland, they could expand the 15 acre Smolenski Park prairie restoration into a 45 acre prairie along the Pike River, near its headwaters. That would be insane! Healthier waters, happy wildlife. But I only dream.
The Pike River can be just barely seen from the Smolenski Park prairie restoration - well, at least the river banks sloping down to it. There were even some Canada Geese resting along it. Unfortunately, a 22-acre farm field sits in between the river and the prairie. ๐ข

Unfortunately for my area, clouds are forecasted. But for those who have clear skies, keep an eye out tonight!
Tonight, we may see a strong geomagnetic storm and auroral visibility extending further equatorward into the central U.S. Let me tell you what is happening, who will see aurora and when, and some tips for catching the aurora tonight! This could potentially be a nice event! ๐งต

A G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm is in progress. The G3 threshold was reached at 06/0527 UTC due to persistent CME influence. A G3 or greater geomagnetic storm warning is valid until 06/1200 UTC.

Wow! Aurora is very visible to the naked eye tonight! There was just a small wall of magenta in the sky!

Kp estimation 6-8, but the eruption situation is complex, so we will just have to wait and see. Thursday is when we should start paying attention. Impact around Thurs night for NA chasers.
Fast full halo CME heading toward earth. Its flank could hit us early on November 7. Kp max 6-8 according to NASA simulation. Mid latitudes aurora possible. Speed: 1100 km/s; associated with a M7.4 class solar flare from region 4274 in the northeast peaking at 11:19z 2025-11-05

Photos from my hike on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Notable wildlife included a large flock of wild turkeys, red squirrels, and lots of red-breasted nuthatches and dark-eyed juncos. #IceAgeTrail

I patiently waited for two ships - the M/V Honorable James L. Oberstar (near) and M/V H. Lee White (far) - to line up for a photo. Right as they finally did, a flock of hundreds of common mergansers flew past on their way south! I've never seen so many!

Red squirrels are one of my favorite squirrel species, but I don't have them where I live, so I can only enjoy them while out on a camping trip. This one was eating a pinecone in a tree by my campsite.

The 1918 Manitowoc North Breakwater Lighthouse is one of eleven Lake Michigan lighthouses I've seen.
