Trigger warning: may cause offence to narcissists with sticks up their arses

One of the most persistent analytical mistakes in South African politics is the failure to distinguish between noise and public opinion.

ANC will be changing their name to African Hypocritical Congress
@SABCNews This is what Fikile Mbalula said a few years ago when he was Minister of Police. So what's different now? Again the WC Govt / CoCT is stepping in to mitigate the failures of SAPS in the WC.

@Saxon_African You've somehow got stuck on that stupid American definition of "liberal", which is in many respects the exact opposite of what the term really means. When the DA says it is liberal, they mean the primacy of the individual as opposed to identity politics, and a market economy.

Soft-left commentators ( like Peter Bruce and Stephen Grootes) opining that a change of DA leadership means a chance to take account of race again in party policy. They don’t get it: Non-racialism is a principle. Race is not a proxy for disadvantage. You don’t need a proxy, you

Looks like the VF+ bots are panicking
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has told his caucus that he is “seriously considering” a bid for the leadership of the Democratic Alliance, following John Steenhuisen’s announcement that he will not seek re-election. https://t.co/YKZwGBudTc

Everyone has a view, but step back and what John seems to be about to do today puts him in a long, long line of party leaders who make good decisions (for themselves and the party) about when to move on. It speaks well of them and of the party’s culture. Steytler did. Eglin did

There are two things that define the DA’s world view, historically, and I am sure they will continue to do so: 1. A belief in individual freedom as a prerequisite for dignity and the possibility of a fulfilling life (what Amartya Sen called “a life you value”.) This conception

Some of y’all just mouth-off with zero care for perspective, understanding or even facts. Social media algorithms ofcourse reward this because it creates traffic & “viral moments”. In turn making such people raise their volume & just repeat their bile in growing echo chambers🤦🏾♂️

I too parked ideology aside, and consulted deeply by speaking to expert voices & importantly those who have dealt with the #FMD issue previously. The implementing path laid out by Minister @jsteenhuisen is correct. There’ll be space for reform, but now is time to unite and act!

Let's see who they turn their bots onto now
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) notes the impending resignation of the current DA leader, Mr John Steenhuisen, and wishes him all the best for the future. @MulderCorn

MAKING SENSE ABOUT THE HYSTERIA AROUND THE FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE OUTBREAK IN SOUTH AFRICA’S LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY By Johann Kirsten and Wandile Sihlobo The foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) amongst cattle in South Africa has spread aggressively since 2019, affecting eight of the

You may be correct, but the attacks are politically motivated and linked to electioneering. So facts are ignored to win votes
Onderstepoort Biological Products (OBP) and ARC-OVR (Onderstepoort Veterinary Research) dominate SA's FMD response: OBP acts as the state’s central hub for importing, storing & distributing FMD vaccines (e.g., from Botswana, Turkey, Argentina), holding a near-monopoly under the

Doubtless too complex for X, but the truth is that (a) the DA should fight harder in government to change aspects of ANC policy but (b) don’t have the numbers to dictate and (c) would pay a high price by leaving the GNU and handing the country to MK/EFF and their mates inside the
The DA campaigns as an opponent of BEE, it declares in reports and statements BEE is destroying the country. Then the leader of the DA becomes a Minister and he enforces the exact thing he is mandated to resist.

So the complainant lied about the Mayor and was helped by political opponents to drag out the case to try to smear the Mayor. Ironically he now has to pay the Mayor's legal costs which will be higher because he dragged out the case
A Cape Town magistrate has dismissed a protection order application that accused Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis of abusing his power. The court also awarded costs against the applicant after finding the case had no merit. The magistrate said the matter was deliberately delayed for

Perhaps Gayton should support the international sporting events we can afford instead of making wild promises
South Africa won’t be hosting Formula One in the near future. Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie admits the country underestimated the requirements needed to stage the event. https://t.co/sQuIsovBAn

Social media doesn’t reward truth. It rewards repetition. And the brain mistakes repetition for reality. That’s how belief detaches from evidence.

creepy man sidles up to spaza shops to buy illicit "drug"
This afternoon I went undercover (reason for floppy hat) to do some research on the illicit trade. Unbelievable that one can buy a box of cigarettes for R10 - from a spaza shop just 50m from parliament. The illicit trade is destroying our country and economy and must be stopped.
