Our house in Calais is under the patronage of Maria Skobstova, St Mary of Paris, who housed refugees in Paris during the Nazi occupation and was murdered by the Nazis on Holy Saturday 1945. We rely on her prayers. Maria Skobstova pray for us all who pass through your house

Growing older is not the closing act. It can be the most exquisite chapter — if you let yourself bloom again.

Excellent briefing in Calais this morning on the UK “one in one out” scheme by @RLSAthens . More evidence of the high quality commitment of many to those seeking asylum.

One of many remarkable & unreported aspects of life in Calais is the large number of young people who come to volunteer. They are frequently very well qualified & talented young people who could be furthering their own careers in their own country but chose otherwise.

We were one fewer tonight at our little Night Prayer gathering. She left us this afternoon in the hope of crossing the channel tonight. Three left us today and one will probably leave us tomorrow. It feels impossible to imagine what the journey - if successful - will be like.

Walking through Dover at lunch time today I was very pleased to find this and grateful to ⁦@HoratioClare⁩ for alerting me to its existence. Volunteering in Calais and the UK which so many do matters because it bears witness to this deeply important fact

This is an important and helpful statistic. We can only have a useful debate about immigration when we know the facts.

The facts behind our work in the Channel. In 2024, our crews launched 114 times to Channel crossings – that's just 1.2% of our total launches. Our core purpose is to save lives at sea. Anyone can drown, but no one should.

Recently visited a former colleague in a Pensions Board Community Living Scheme. He is deeply content & I was significantly impressed not least by their care for somebody for whom old age is bringing significant complexities. Much to be thankful for @churchofengland.

Learning that the CEO of the C of E Pensions Board, John Ball, read every single story shared by the Clergy Pensions Action Group (2000-strong) does not surprise me. He strikes me as a very kind man, with a real Christian vocation for his role.

Good to see a sensible report on the 8am scramble to get a GP. What is not reported is that the more NHS staff are abused the more people will leave the NHS & the harder it is to recruit - Behind the scenes at a GP 8am scramble - BBC News.
