Nazi Germany, Khmer Rouge Cambodia, Trump-era America: three young women's families are torn apart. Within their parallel stories, political repression threatens their families' freedom and lives. Their strength will not be enough against their government's hatred. #PitMad #A #HF

Three agent rejections in 24 hours! Another £15 added to my “Rejection Tip Jar” to spend on something totally frivolous at some point and to remind myself I’m working towards something 🤪

Two and a half years since I accidentally started my second book (it was supposed to be a short story) I’m officially back in the querying trenches! Feeling many different feels - mostly proud (but also scared, emotional and impatient) #amquerying

Q for writers re querying - do you submit to your dream agent(s) first round or do you hold out and send to other agents first to see if you get any useful rejections for another round of edits?? Don’t want to waste my shot but also impatient to send to one particular agent

It's come to my attention again that few people have any idea what the government's "stop the boats" illegal migration bill does, so: It ends the right to seek asylum in the UK. No decsions. No applications will be processed. From Afghans to Albanians. Limbo forever for all.

True bravery is killing your first chapter after years pretending to think it’s good enough and writing it again from scratch. Proud to be that brave soldier today

Very excited and grateful that @alzheimerssoc is helping me gather feedback from people affected by dementia to understand how my novel can better reflect the true experience of living with dementia. Involvement of people with lived experience is so important!

There’s something very sadistic about the writerly pleasure at making another one of your best friends cry. But thrilled with this latest feedback on my book! 6 week countdown to my self-imposed deadline to start querying 😬🥳🤯

I am a 72 year old Jewish pensioner. My German parents came here as refugees (on a boat) in the 1940s to escape Nazi Germany. My grandparents remained in the country and were deported to Auschwitz where they were murdered. (ctd) #lineker #braverman #bbcaq

Those censoring @GaryLineker have clearly forgotten that @SuellaBraverman was told by Holocaust survivor Joan Salter that her language is like the one Joan fled in the 1940s For those with short memories, here’s the video

If you’re as upset and angry at the government’s latest hostility towards refugees, read Richard’s excellent commentary below, and write to your MP!! It takes 30 seconds.

There was a moment recently when @lewis_goodall made me cry. "The kind of crushing thing", he said, "is what pulls them, like so many before them, to Britain. It’s the esteem they hold us in. They think Britain is different. They think Britain will treat them better". THREAD

It's the oldest trick in the book: When poverty is on the rise and the rich are getting richer, the powerful play divide and rule. That's what the Tories' latest attack on refugees is all about. I will vote against their cruel Anti-Refugee Bill.
