The LGA knows that soaring SEND costs are not the cause: they are the *consequence* of decade-long central govt underinvestment and a system that too often has to be dragged kicking and screaming to provide support. Let's not blame disabled children for state failure.
The local government association has warned councils could be forced to declare themselves bankrupt because of the soaring cost of SEND provision. Figures due to be released tomorrow are expected to show a steep rise in the number of families lodging appeals at tribunals in

I just can't fathom why anyone would do this....
The devastating news that a person has cut down the tree at #sycamoregap on #Hadrianswall is completely symbolic of the state of self destruction that England is in at the moment. I can only think they must be mad and in possession of a chainsaw simultaneously I despair

Once upon a time, children were strapped for using their left hand instead of t right. They were caned for slow reading. Now they are given detention for wrong colour socks. All of this is immoral. These are decisions devoid of morality. It’s #power , not education.

@Keir_Starmer Does absolutely everything need to be linked to workplace skills? Why not allow children to access something that is merely about joy, expression, enrichment, opportunity, creativity, sensory input? To all in politics: stop commodifying our kids. Stop commodifying childhood.

I've seldom heard about anything nastier than Robert Jenrick's order to paint over the pictures in the asylum centre. Cold, cruel, the act of a soul that's shrivelled and mean to its core. How can he look in the mirror? Utter moral emptiness.

It was awful. He couldn't cope. He wasn't the same as he was before, but everyone kept saying that he must keep going to school. One day he made a wish - to stop going to school - and Nicola granted it. 2/

When Nicola's son was eight, he was kicked in the head by a horse. He had a fractured skull, but after he was discharged from hospital she was told to send him back to school. 1/

Children with special needs are being failed. Parents, like me, have a right to be furious. @JimMooreJourno in the Independent https://t.co/HQYQ7DKioZ Thanks for the quote from our post:

Looks like there are no Conservative councillors left on the Vale of White Horse District Council in Oxfordshire. We have also taken majority control of South Oxfordshire. I can’t believe I just wrote this.
