And, of course, if the minimum wage had kept pace with productivity (which it did at least at the start), it would be at more than $18 already. Even if it simply grew with average wages (yes, those of us earning salary can gripe about our incomes as well) it would be at $11
I think this is pretty well known, but a reminder that NC is one of the states that has the bare minimum of a $7.25 minimum wage. That's $290 in 40 hours $50k/yr works out to $24/hr (and that's with no vacations/holidays) graphic via @StatistaCharts
