Appreciate a voice sharing this perspective. We would do well do remove some metaphors from our lexicon when addressing cancer and particularly sarcoma. War metaphors amplify a mechanistic view of cancer care and steal from the human story that is unfolding.

Since reading this article last week, I have been paying more attention to my words. Doctors at their core must compassionate communicators to carry out healing work. We must consider the weight our words carry and the connotations we are communicating.

This Easter, remembering the pause between death and resurrection is a good reminder that we remain in the already but not yet. The suffering I see and seek to provide compassion to each day is a reminder of the pause while the world awaits resurrection.
