Modern Mormonism is the product of 200 years of culture wars, societal conflicts that took place within both the faith and the nation that shaped it. My new book, #AmericanZion (@LiverightPub/@wwnorton), published today, tells the origins & growth of America's homegrown religion.

Such a wonderful compliment to get from a great writer and terrific human being!
Just finished this book by @BenjaminEPark. I couldn't put it down. This is a masterpiece. Ben managed to write an incredibly compelling but surprisingly thorough history of Mormonism, without agenda. I would recommend this book to my Mormon and Exmormon friends.

“I really feel like that’s completely inappropriate” to speak of a Founding Father in that way, Nelson insisted. Must-read essay by @BenjaminEPark on the attempt to shield children from learning historical facts about Thomas Jefferson in a Houston suburb.

Recently, a @ConroeISD board member said it was "totally inappropriate" to teach students that Thomas Jefferson fathered children with Sally Hemings. I wrote for @HoustonChron why such an indefensible position is especially absurd for this school district.

An honor to go on @radiowest to discuss Edward Tullidge. Listen to the story of a man who became a Mormon, deist, Mormon again, Godbeite, @sltrib founder, wrote Mormonism's first feminist history, and even joined the RLDS. It's a saga of evolving faith.

This isn’t really an episode about a little-known Mormon writer from the 19th century: it’s an episode about the lifelong search to figure out what you believe.

So excited for my good friend and writing group teammate @lmchervinsky to take over the George Washington Presidential Library at Mount Vernon. She's gonna do great things.
Some exciting news to share. I’m beyond excited to lead @GWBooks as it enters its second decade. We are in a pivotal moment in our democracy and history is more important than ever.

Last week @ConroeISD (my city) rejected a biology textbook because its chromosome section explained how DNA evidence was used to prove Thomas Jefferson fathered a child w/Sally Hemings. While absurd for any school district, it’s galling for the city that produced @agordonreed.
