THIS WILL BE THE THIRD TIME, if I’m not mistaken, that there will have been a recommendation to the DEA to make cannabis schedule three. Twice they have refused. If they do it again, I will say it again : Abolish the DEA.
"Cannabis halves the risk for the development of diabetes mellitus type 2"
The meta-analysis of 7 studies (11 surveys and 4 cohorts) revealed that the odds are 0.48 times lower than in those without cannabis exposure.
For those of you who know him, or care about his plight, or wrote letters on his behalf as I did, William Leonard Pickard is being released, compassionately.

I tell my patients who are pregnant that it is important to read books on breast-feeding and to take a class if possible. We all read books about delivery but the truth is your body will do what it needs to if you get out of its way. Nursing requires more education +support.
DSM has added a new diagnosis: Prolonged Grief Disorder. There should b no timeline on feeling whole again (they put it at a year), but I'd ask researchers to consider using MDMA assisted therapies for this new classification. Or psilocybin assisted therapy. Or LSD. Or ayahuasca.
I told ya! Runner's high is due to endocannabinoid system, not opiate/endorphin. They gave naltrexone, an opiate receptor antagonists to runners, and they still got "high."
Psychedelics induce neuroplasticity resembling the effects of clinically approved antidepressants, which bind to TrkB, the receptor for BDNF. LSD and psilocin directly bind to TrkB with affinities 1,000 fold higher than those for antidepressants.
Seriously a dream come true:
the UCLA study is happening!

More on cannabis and psychosis:
Authors noted that “there was no significant association between any measure of cannabis use at baseline and either transition to psychosis, the persistence of symptoms, or functional outcome.”
DEA calls for the increased production of psychedelics: (up from last month)
8000 grams of psilocybin, 11,000 grams of 5-MeO-DMT, 12,000 grams of MDMA, 12,000 grams of MDA, and 5,100 grams of 2-CB.

yeah... I was watching it live. I'm always amazed at how little *content* is in Trump's speech. classic lying, talking circles, not saying anything real, putting it back on the other person in the conversation. so painful to watch. my son would say "cringey"
Psilocybin in Palliative Care:
Research and field reports reviewed suggest that psilocybin has significant and in some cases, sustained anxiolytic, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory and entheogenic effects with a favorable safety profile.
"boring but important":
AMA approved a new CPT code for psychedelic-assisted therapies. This enables billing, and potentially insurance reimbursement, etc.
meta analysis on cannabis and schizophrenia:
"no causal relationship can be inferred from the current results. The findings could be in favor of both a detrimental and beneficial effect of cannabis on positive and negative symptoms, respectively"
1) higher dose thc can have psychedelic effects, and could likely be used as an adjunct to psychotherapy (or a way to "process trauma") the way some are using mdma or psilocybin
2) maybe stop fetishizing single strains of cannabis and consider a blend
Turns out my new book is already on Amazon for pre-orders. Good Chemistry comes out this June... chock full of information about MDMA, cannabis, and psychedelics like psilocybin and LSD. But mostly, it's a book about oxytocin and oneness.
Kill Your Lawn, Before It Kills You!
"While the lawn may be a powerful symbol of American postwar prosperity, it’s also an ecological dead zone that’s sucking the nation’s aquifers dry."
Medical cannabis study after three months clinical:
"may be effective in reducing both pain severity and pain interference while also improving quality of life, general health, mood and sleep in patients with chronic pain."
Psychedelics bare and heal, heart and soul. They also help elucidate invaluable information about the brain, its chemistry, circuitry, and plasticity.

Cognitive effects of psilocybin:
increased ratings of spontaneous creative insights +
decreased deliberate task-specific creativity. Novel ideas increased 7 days after the psilocybin exposure. Brain imaging supported the behavioral changes in creativity.
CBD + CBG may protect healthy skin cells from the effect of UVA radiation
preventing healthy cells from damage by UVA-radiation without significantly reducing its therapeutic effect on skin diseases such as psoriasis
We are in dire need of psychiatric treatments which dismantle the powerful grip of shame, and offer hope and meaning in its place. The daily dose is no longer cutting it. Clearly heart opening medicines have arrived. My patients deserve better. My friends deserve better.
Ibogaine (plus magnesium) for traumatic brain injury study (yes, there is no placebo control group. doesn't matter. ibogaine works. better than anything so far. the issue is the cardiac risk.)
Two months after treatment, 67 percent of participants in the MDMA group no longer qualified for a diagnosis of PTSD, compared with 32 percent in the placebo group.
psychedelics as anti-inflammatory
Efficacy is sub-behavioral.
Psychedelics can both prevent and rescue inflammation in human disease models.
Anti-inflammatory efficacy is not correlated with behavioral potency or canonical signaling.
Effects of DMT on mental health outcomes in healthy volunteers
Changes in depression and trait anxiety correlated with acute peak experiences ("Oceanic Boundlessness")
"These findings suggest that psychedelics have the capacity to elicit a connection with nature that is passionate and protective, even among those who were not previously nature oriented."
In a pilot study by Harvard Medical School + Hannover Medical School, 100 percent of the patients reported significant relief from cluster headaches in the 4-month-period they were tracked after receiving 3 doses of BOL-148, a non-psychedelic LSD derivative Ceruvia Life Sciences
Who's going to tell the New Yorker (usually meticulous in their fact checking) that MDMA was never called the name "Therapy" but rather "Adam" and also "Empathy" briefly, before being called "Ecstasy" (and now "Molly") ?
Lots of info here.
Mescaline lasting longer than LSD. Mescaline and LSD, but not psilocybin, enhancing circulating oxytocin. None of them increasing BDNF.

Psychedelic Assembly (NYC) is creating a library/bookstore/café. This will be a membership-driven meeting space for psychonauts and those who love them, complete with events, book readings, signings, and other "find the others" gatherings. Wanna help?
If those valentines chocolates contain "magic mushrooms". -- set and setting matter (safe space, heads in a good place), pick a lane (don't add alcohol), and sadly, until our drug policy changes, buyer beware, also micro doses and museum doses likely lovelier than heroic ones imo
High CBD cannabis for migraines:
"a combination of 6% THC and 11% CBD performed the best and was able to provide a significant improvement on the main endpoint of pain relief two hours after a migraine attack."
very gratifying to see an article in Nature about something I've been yammering about for decades (MDMA and psilocybin for the field of psychiatry). it's coming, people.
More than a dozen activists staged a “die-in” outside the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) headquarters in Arlington, Va., Monday, demanding the agency allow patients with life-threatening conditions to legally access psilocybin. 17 were arrested.
8,000 cups of pee can't be wrong:

She is not the only doctor I know doing this.
"Cancer-care expert Dr. Diana Martins-Welch finds herself in an unusual position: Last week she started telling her medical marijuana patients to quit vaping cannabis and pick up a joint instead."
I like to fantasize about certain politicians availing themselves of MDMA-assisted therapy, psilocybin and ayahuasca...so they may clearly see the cycle of traumatized and traumatizer... and perhaps neuroplasticity-enabled behavioral change would follow?
Connecticut governor Ned Lamont signed a tax bill that includes a pilot program to provide psychedelic-assisted therapy, using MDMA and psilocybin, to qualifying veterans, retired first-responders, and frontline workers such as police and firefighters.

I was talking about the need for educating oneself about nursing versus educating oneself about delivery. Women focus on educating themselves about delivery and forget that nursing is not completely intuitive and requires education. I’m sorry if I was unclear.
Psychedelic experiences may contribute to an increase in psychological flexibility and reduction in racial trauma symptoms and alcohol and drug use among POC (who've been largely excluded from psychedelic treatment research)
