New paper where I argue that injuries such as hamstring strains and ACL injuries may be overuse injuries instead of acute injuries For example, the figure shows that fiber force & length during injury step is not different from many preceding steps FREE paper link in comments

Another study showing that the use of compression socks during running is associated with INCREASED injury risk No cause-effect, but definitely something to think about next time you see compression socks being recommended to reduce running injuries. https://t.co/w8SAHXHcJR

Excellent systematic review of biomechanics & running economy from @BasVanHooren & colleagues: https://t.co/KWYzawlc1D Increasing step rate or reducing trunk flexion may help efficiency in some runners 🏃‍♂️ Lots to unpack so we’ve summarised the key findings in this graphic.

🏅 2nd place Dutch nationals 10.000m at @goudenspike Great to once again take a medal in a strong field. Also not a bad time (28.43) given the heat and wind. Perhaps one more 5 km this summer and then focus on the road races again in autumn

New study where we investigate whether 1) ‘super shoes’ work for recreat. runners, and 2) why some runners benefit more 1. Super shoes improved RE by 2–4% 2. Comfort, anthropometrics, muscle architecture & running style didn't explain who benefited most https://t.co/RckG11uJYF

I enjoy these types of case studies that challenge the extent to which cardiorespiratory fitness declines with ageing https://t.co/G869w2Q0S2 A 76-yr-old female with a VO2max close to 50 mL/kg/min is pretty impressive. Nice work from @BasVanHooren & @MicZanini

New 5km PB: 13:59 Last weekend at the Nijmegen NGA, I broke the sub-14 barrier in the 5K! 🕒13:59 Led almost the entire race solo, so much faster possible in a group race and with more specific prep. Happy with this for the first race of the track season

Finally did a new VO2max test after 7 years. VO2max increased by ~10% from 70 to 77 mL/kg/min Different protocol & equipment, but likely also due to much higher volume and optimized training intensity distribution
