I’ve been absolutely swamped this month but here’s a product I’m really proud of. This amazing group of authors worked on @theamazonwewant during the pandemic, meeting weekly to produce a report for scientists, students, the public and policy members. This piece is our alert.

The word 'doctor' comes from the Latin word for "teacher."

Just who qualifies as a doctor anyway?

Imagine believing that there’s voter fraud with zero evidence but not believing climate change is real despite going into the fucking Greek alphabet this year in storm names.

You can't sit this one out, @senatemajldr! As students and educators head back to school, call back the Senate to pass the HEROES Act to support students, educators, and public schools, colleges and universities! @NYSUT #DemandSafeSchools #FundOurFuture

It's shameful that @NYCMayor is claiming 75% of @NYCSchools parents want to be back in-person now: when only about 300K out of 1.1 mil families submitted their preference by Thursday & at least 2/3rds of those families chose to go fully remote. None of this is equitable or just.
@BrianLehrer @ByJessicaGould the 100% remote opt-in deadline was woefully under-publicized by @NYCSchools in non-tech-heavy communities --- I'm actually impressed that 264K students have already opted in. The remaining 736K does NOT reflect active buy-in @MOREcaucusUFT @UFT

So lots of people including reporters keep mentioning a 1% infection rate, but there are neighborhoods in the Bx, Bk & system island with infection rates above the Mayor’s 3% threshold. Schools in those neighborhoods also have the least resources. Inequity is built into averages.

I just crossed the 4 month mark of being sick w' #COVID19. I am young, & I was healthy. Dying is not the only thing to worry about. I still have a near-daily fever, loss of cognitive function, essential tremors, GI issues, severe headaches, heartrate of 150+, viral arthritis, 1/

I need everyone to see this, and then imagine 30 kids in a a small classroom and how many more dots they’d see there. You see the problem. Schools aren’t safe right now.
The @WHO recognizes what we’ve known for a while: that COVID-19 in transmissible indoors. Great figure illustrating how simple ventilation can help reduce transmission. Question is - what if we can’t tackle the virus by the time it gets cold? https://t.co/RsPDZiIiwr

The entire “back to school or not debate” amid a global pandemic has really put a spotlight on how overly committed humans are to a calendar & timeline. Why? What if we change it & normalize a different timeline for education, life, and learning?

Respect. Give the teachers what they deserve for being the first responders of education, for finding a way to their students through this pandemic. Teachers, we are grateful. We see you. We celebrate you. @MathforAmerica
