⚽️ Did you know being a sports fan can affect your health? For part of his senior talk, @BenMecsasFaxon presented how this NEJM paper found more #cardiovascular events in Munich when Germany was playing in the @FIFAWorldCup! 😯

On pulm consults with @HarvardPulm @BIDMC_IM, and consulted on a case of platypnea that is still escaping us. In the spirit of a @StaciSaundersMD intern report today on effective med-ed, here's my general approach to the condition and attempt at an infographic! #MedTwitter

🥴#Fomepizole is part of the solution to toxic alcohol ingestion except in the case of #isopropanol since it IS the #toxic compound, & fomepizole would prevent its conversion to acetone! 🧮Calculating an osmolar gap and anion gap is helpful for dx! #MedTwitter #MedEd #Toxicology

❤️We were so inspired by Dr. Nadine Tung who gave Thorndike Conference this Thursday! She was recognized by the residency for her role in understanding and managing #hereditary #breastcancer! She was instrumental in studying #PARP inhibitors. 🧬

3/ 🦠Finally, there's a rise in #ciprofloxacin resistance in nontyphoidal #salmonella, so consider switching antibiotics if diarrhea is still persistent. Other options include #ceftriaxone and #azithromycin.

2/ 💊If you're like me, you may be hesitant to start #loperamide without an infectious work up... BUT it's likely safe for patients WITHOUT fevers or bloody diarrhea or concern for C. difficile.

1/ 💩When do you order stool studies and start antibiotics for #diarrhea? Get #cultures: For severe symptoms, high risk host, bloody diarrhea, and prolonged symptoms! Start #antibiotics: For hemodynamic instability, hospitalized patients, age >=70, and serious comorbidities!
