A community mental health team supporting people with severe mental health problems, primarily psychosis, who have difficulty engaging with mainstream services.
Joined December 2021
Welcome to the IOT twitter page. We use a trauma informed, assertive and team working approach to support people who find it difficult to engage in mainstream mental health services. Mainly with psychosis and/or substance use. #psychosis #mentalhealthservices #assertiveoutreach

A devastating picture of poverty in the UK from @jrf_uk showing both the extent and depth of the problem for so many people. The toll on people’s mental health is huge: poverty is toxic to mental health and tackling it will dramatically improve wellbeing across the country
📊 Our latest #UKPoverty report launched this morning. 🔍 14.4 million people were living in poverty in 2021/22 – and our analysis shows that millions of people would need thousands of pounds just to escape poverty. (1/5)

I have been fortunate enough to visit a service like this in Toronto. A warm, safe and respectful place where judgment and stigma is left at the door to provide a compassionate, evidence based health service. We must do better !
Do you think the first picture is a more appropriate space for homeless drug users to be? The difference between the UK & 17 other countries around the world highlighted in two pictures. Repost if you support safer consumption sites & support rather than punishment.

Great article by @justin_garson in @PsychToday normalising voice hearing. We are currently developing a measure to capture peoples’s experiences of hallucinations in order to understand them rather than label or diagnose, please help share if you can:
I wrote for @PsychToday about the diversity of voice-hearing experiences, as well as evidence that our negative, pathologizing views about voice-hearing can actually shape the content and tone of those experiences. Thanks to @cfernyhough for his research.

A new article from me about #mentalhealth and the ever increasing medicalisation of all aspects of society. Credit to @JDaviesPhD and @ClinpsychLucy for their work over the years and given me faith to do an article about this. Thank you @NursingTimes

The ‘failed’ Care Act 2014 must be properly implemented as part of a radical shift in adult social care from a ‘transactional’ to an ‘enabling’ service, peers have said. This should be underpinned by...

Don’t want to sound like a broken record but guess what? Outreach Teams are important (and not just for risk management) 🤷🏽♂️

So we conclude: 'recovery is political as well as personal, both intrinsically linked for many of us.' The UnRecovery Star: https://t.co/1zh2WEBEeN

The strength of the ‘UnRecovery Star’ is being used as a teaching tool, in order to highlight social inequalities that exist and are still prominent in society, and helping students make those links to the causes of mental distress. https://t.co/1zh2WEBEeN
