Books where the antagonist gets their deserved comeuppance can be good, actually. I hope so, anyway.
Protagonists in modern storytelling be like .“I can’t kill the genocidal maniac” *punches a goon in the throat and throws him off a building* “I have to believe he can change!” *shoots five henchmen in the face* “If I kill him, I’ll be just as bad as he is” *blows up a building.
