Enjoyed joining my colleagues at #NCSC25 to share @TheMindTrust’s framework for the necessary conditions to support the growth of high-quality schools. We’re proud to serve the students and families of Indiana, Connecticut, and beyond.

Interestingly, the Indiana legislative change that's already had the biggest positive impact on charter schools is the universal zoning reform. Several zoning requests have already been cleared. No longer will zoning be used as a weapon to prevent the growth of quality schools.

“Close low-performing, underenrolled schools. Expand high-performing, in-demand schools. This formula has tremendous upside. It’s what cities like New Orleans, Denver and Indianapolis have done to great success.”. Another great piece from @ChadAldeman.

ICYMI… A generation ago, the charter school law revolutionized public schooling in Indy. Today, the Indianapolis Local Education Alliance has another generational opportunity to recommend the restructuring of our school system so all students succeed.

Stanford found that Black students enrolled in Indianapolis charter schools make significantly more academic progress than their traditional school peers. When compared to other major cities, Indy charters ranked 1st in math and 2nd in reading. Source:

In November 2023, the University of Arkansas found that Indianapolis charter schools were the most cost-effective out of any city studied. Researchers analyzed academic performance in relation to per-pupil charter funding. Source:
