I’m the BBC’s (first ever) Climate Editor. I report from the front line of climate change - how it’s going to affect our lives and what we can do about it.
The New Zealand climate minister, James Shaw, says “petro-states” made huge effort to “unravel” the Glasgow Pact at
#COP27
. Says - with a sigh - it was an achievement just to “hold the line”.

, you have to go to News at Ten on the iPlayer for that.
One of the most severe marine heatwaves on Earth has developed off the coast of Ireland and the UK, with water temperatures as high as 4-5°C above normal.
NOAA's Marine Heatwave Watch has categorized this event as a Category 4 (extreme) marine heatwave.
As expected
@michaelgove

coal mine. It will damage the UK’s hard-won international reputation as a leader in the climate battle, says

Another day, another record for the North Atlantic. Everything is happening so fast, it's hard to get a sense of the enormity of these anomalies, let alone their consequences.
It is getting very hot in southern Europe and it is going to get even hotter. These kind of temperatures would be vanishingly unlikely without man-made climate change says
@FrediOtto
and other climate scientists.
Europe’s highest temperature on Monday was in southern Spain – where Andujar reached 44.8C.
Sicily wasn’t far behind at 43.5C.
Climate Editor Justin Rowlatt is in Spain for

I take you back through 800,000 years of climate history for this
@BBCNewsAt10
feature on the searing heat wave blanketing southern Europe.
@BBCNews
I think I may have recorded a

. The first jeans in the studio! A disgraceful lapse in standards or a refreshing new casual approach? You tell me - and please correct me if a colleague got there before me.
Just incredible footage.
Timelapse over several summers by Italy's Servizio Glaciologico Lombardo shows Fellaria glacier shrinking like an ice lolly in the sun.

Oh dear. I’ve been rumbled. I was fortunate to “obtain” a

mug and made the mistake of having it in shot this morning. Questions are being asked!!
The record June temperatures have been driving an exceptional number of fish deaths. Here’s the

I feel so lucky to have known Penny Kemp. She bestrode the Green movement, gave

First assignment as BBC Climate Editor. Off into North Sea to see what it takes to keep the World’s biggest offshore wind farm going with

This is terrifying.

Here's a thread in pictures about the Atlantic overturning circulation

which is making headlines this week. I've studied this topic since 1991 and will show key data and models & some video.
Let's go: observed temperature trend since 1901 from 🧵1/x
I’m about to go live from the epicentre of the new industrial revolution driving the transition away from fossil fuels. I’m at the giant Siemens offshore wind turbine factory in Hull in East Yorkshire.

Plug-in vehicles have basically achieved full penetration in Norway, at ~90% sales share, with fully electric vehicles at >80%. That's where California standards want to get a decade from now. 'The future has arrived, it's just not evenly distributed yet'
The latest global temperature figures show the hottest seven years on record are - yes, you guessed - the last seven years. Here’s my

report from 10 (well, most of it).
The flaws and limitations of

are why products like

were developed. I'm not saying
#cryptocurrency
aren't interesting, innovative or even revolutionary just that
#Bitcoin
ain't going to scale. Like I say, cash-out and go somewhere more interesting.
What if
#COP26
succeeds and we take control of the climate, what then? And if we fail, what will be left of the mighty works of man for geologists from the next intelligent species to speculate about?

BREAKING: The European Parliament has voted to set a 2035 deadline for zero-emissions cars and vans👏
It's huge step forward for climate action, air quality and the affordability of electric vehicles.
I don't understand why crypto-enthusiasts (or fans of Elon Musk) get so upset when people point out that Bitcoin simply can't work as a major currency. That's just a fact.

You won't hear the new King expressing a view on fracking," says one senior UK politician, "but I can imagine him making a speech on the need to take more urgent action on climate." Don’t forget, tackling climate change is a legal obligation in UK!

A very fond farewell to a broadcasting star,

. He pioneered tech reporting as a discipline. When the dot com bubble burst in 2001 he had to battle not to go back to a business correspondent because the bosses reckoned “the internet was over”. All the best, mate!
Finally checking out of the BBC with a photo taken by a great cameraman and friend Neil Drake. It's been an honour and a privilege to work for 40 years for an organisation whose mission is more important than ever, with some of the most talented people you can imagine
"The truth is, the biggest polluter in this country is agriculture"

We are taking Earth’s climate way beyond natural limits, with carbon dioxide and temperatures levels not seen for 3 million years
These guys take classic cars, rip out the engines and replace with electric motors. Petrol heads will hate it, greens love it. They’ve got Astons, Ferraris, Porsches and a Jensen Interceptor in the workshop, plus Land Rovers and even a little Triumph convertible.
