I somehow don’t think the character who is textually an egotistical asshole, liar and conman saying that Jewish slaves built the pyramids is meant to be taken as a true statement of the fundamental beliefs of the writer

This is true but there’s also very much a reference to Saville in there because all these films are about the darkness hiding in our society. Having Crystal dress like Saville is visual shorthand for that
Sir Jimmy Crystal is not BASED on Jimmy Saville. He dresses like him. Boyle says that’s because he wanted to make a point about corrupted childhood icons & lost innocence in the post-apocalyptic world. Nothing about Jimmy’s character is modeled after, based on, or mirrors Saville
