On this day in 2020, the UK made global history. At 6:31am, NHS nurse May Parsons gave 90-year old Maggie Keenan the first approved COVID-19 vaccine anywhere in the world. A breakthrough made possible by remarkable scientific work and the dedication of the NHS + care workforce.

Just got a note from @GiveBloodNHS: my recent donation went to Whipps Cross Hospital. I’ll never know who needed it, but knowing it helped someone on a tough day genuinely made my week. Please give blood if you can - each donation can save up to three lives. 🩸

70 years ago today, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat, sparking the Montgomery bus boycott. We all must continue to carry her legacy, fighting for equality and speaking up against injustice.

It’s World AIDS Day. More than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS-related illnesses over the past 40 years, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history. Today we remember them.

Remembering Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones who died in the Fishmongers’ Hall and London Bridge terror attack on this day in 2019. Thinking of their families and friends, those who were injured and the emergency services who responded.

I was proud to present the NHS Communications Initiative of the Year Award at the @HSJ_Awards last week. Congratulations to @ImperialNHS who lifted the trophy for their Call for Concern project. It was also fab to meet the very funny @robbrydonlive!

👨 Today we're launching our landmark Men's Health Strategy. This action plan will tackle the specific health challenges faced by men and boys. Men's health has been overlooked for too long. We're changing that by meeting men where they are. More: https://t.co/VxJlg44RLQ

Gave blood today 🩸 Less than an hour, a cup of tea, a biscuit … and it could save a life. Winter is tough for donations, but hospitals need approximately 5,000 units daily. If you can, now’s the time to book. One small act. Huge impact. ❤️ https://t.co/Ta6FNUZ7w0

NEW: 93 murders in London (pop: ~9m) in 12 months to October. The city's murder rate is now lowest for decades; perhaps centuries. https://t.co/T0o7Q0bgVw

On this day in 1897, Aneurin (Nye) Bevan was born. He spearheaded the launch of the NHS - a health service free at the point of delivery. Happy 128th birthday Mr Bevan!

Four years after we created the Covid Memorial Wall in a guerrilla action born out of grief and determination, the Government has now announced it will be made permanent. This is a powerful step towards ensuring our loved ones are never forgotten.

Enormous thanks to emergency services for their response to this distressing incident - especially the brilliant response of our NHS services. My prayers tonight are with those affected and their families.
The appalling incident on a train near Huntingdon is deeply concerning. My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police.
