A new Science study helps explain why rates of species exchange are at least twice as high from west to east than in the opposite direction across Wallace’s Line, which separates the distinct biota of Australia and New Guinea from that of Southeast Asia. https://t.co/IGNR8WVAss

I'm ✨INCREDIBLY✨ excited to share our new paper with you!! 📢"#PlasticPollution in riverbeds fundamentally affects natural sand transport processes" https://t.co/9l0dHNVlEi
#FlumeFriday #River @CommsEarth @nature @IceMeanders @bedform Here are our key findings: 🧵1/5

Communications Earth & Environment - The presence of plastic particles in riverbed sediments can alter depositional processes and dune morphology and lead to more sand being locally mobilised...

How different (or similar) are bed load characteristics of spherical #microplastics and #sediments? The material does not dictate the fate. Final version online and Open Access right in time for #FlumeFriday : https://t.co/aRDKgtzUiy
Do #microplastic & #sediment have the same bed load transport dynamics? Through 11,000 cases, we show that the saltation dynamics of MP is analogous to sediments Therefore, can #sedimenttransport serve as a foundation for the study of MP transport?👇 https://t.co/IjEGdDPFCg

The Lego brick on the left was in a box of samples provided by the Lego Group shortly after the cargo spill in 1997. The Lego brick on the right has been lying at the bottom of the ocean for 26 years. It was discovered in a fisherman's net a few days ago. #oceanplastic

Disheartening to see the accumulation of garbage at Camp IV on Mt #Everest (8848.86 m). It's high time we address this issue with urgency and commitment. Let's demand stricter regulations, enforcement of clean climbing practices, and effective waste management strategies. Video

Did you know that the 🚬 #tobaccoIndustry is a top global #plastic polluter? #CigaretteButts are the #1 most littered item on Earth🤯, and they contain #toxic #chemicals that can harm wildlife and pollute our oceans. #PlasticPollution #microplastics

Even manmade objects can become miniature coral reefs. This Lego door frame has been lying at the bottom of the sea for 26 years and has a tiny Devonshire cup coral growing inside one of its studs. It's one of over 18,000 lost from the cargo ship Tokio Express in 1997.
