It really is a shocking story on its own. But it also raises some questions about the gig economy. Food Delivery Apps don’t employ their riders. The law says they are self employed, independent contractors. Which is fine. But what happens if something goes badly wrong?

How many deaths? New research suggests the chemical is linked to at least 130 deaths since 2019.

And the key issue. The authorities here have known about the pro suicide forum and the substance since September 2030. How? Because coroners told the Government on at least 5 occasions. But the forum is still active as are the sellers and the poison is still killing people.

Zakutenko has been selling since at least 2020. One buyer received a welfare check in November of that year and the substance was taken away. But I went to an inquest earlier this month of 3 people who bought from Zakutenko. No welfare checks there.

Real questions for police in the UK. After Kenneth Law was arrested in Canada for supplying the same substance forces here visited more than 200 buyers. Now the NCA tells me some died after those checks.

Poison seller tied to suicide forum tracked down by BBC. This IS a shocking story but it also raises some really serious questions. How could this man have carried on his trade for so long? Why aren’t his parcels intercepted? Or removed from buyers?

Agree. Hugely misleading from @CommonsPACAC @Meg_HillierMP The forum in question voluntarily made some small changes to UK access after a BBC News investigation. They then reversed those changes two days later - leaving it freely available to anyone, including children.
The first para of today’s @CommonsPACAC report into implementation of the #OnlineSafetyAct wrongly claims that @Ofcom helped blocked a suicide forum linked to numerous UK deaths - it’s sadly inaccurate as the website was freely available again within 48 hours @Meg_HillierMP

But this case leaves the families with many unanswered questions. Why is the pro suicide forum where people found out about Law still live? Why no action against its founders and admins? And why are the authorities not acting on the other suppliers who have taken Law’s place?
