You can’t ‘ban’ people from taking taxis. But - yes obviously - you should stop wasting taxpayers cash on taxis when there are other transport options. I heard one interview with an asylum seeker who wanted to take the bus but was told not to.

And if an asylum seeker happens to have money saved (they probably don’t have, but the point remains) they can take a taxi and pay for it if they want to.

Surely the headline is all wrong here - putting blame on asylum seekers. The fact that the Home Office has been squandering cash on taxis is hardly their fault
