1️⃣ This viral graphic cherry-picks & misleads. It claims hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires & climate deaths are all “decreasing” as CO₂ rises - but that’s not really what the science shows. Let’s look at each. 🧵

Deniers say ‘CO2 is plant food - so it can’t cause climate change’. That’s like saying water is essential to life - so it’s impossible to drown.

Why are most climate denial talking points still stuff we've known for hundreds of years? CO₂ is plant food and climate has always changed? Our kids learn that in early primary school..

The Lomborg trolley problem: Save the climate OR help the poor. The most likely option is to do neither. Climate sceptics are increasingly anti vaxx. We are in the era of the destruction of USAID AND climate goals.

The "only way" says this childish post with ice in a glass- while thermal expansion has been a significant contributor to sea level rise in recent decades.

The only way that sea level can rise is when ice goes off land and into the ocean

Never forget: At breakneck speed we are leaving the stable Holocene climate in which human society developed and thrived. Weather extremes are outside historical experience. Sea-level rise is accelerating. Dangerous tipping points are ahead. Graph: https://t.co/UNaqGEKMQc

The end of the internal combustion engine? Sales of petrol and diesel cars in China peaked in 2017 and are now falling rapidly. The shift to electric and low-carbon transport is well underway—and EV sales are rising fast.

Heat pumps are magical machines. Instead of combusting fossil fuels to generate heat they transport heat from the air, ground or water into your home. This reduces carbon emissions instantly by about 80% with the current electricity mix. It will be close to 100% by mid 2030s

Solar’s price drop is astonishing: panels are now 98% cheaper than when I first analyzed them in 2004. Today, building a fence with solar can be cheaper than using wood.

What does one of the richest men in the world get wrong about climate change? Ahead of this month’s COP30 summit in Brazil, Bill Gates is advising world leaders that global warming “will not lead to humanity’s demise.” But is that true? Join me and fellow scientists
