@aniemyer @AncientSubHunt @Humbledore Years ago I spoke to a retired officer who knew him as a peer. He was on active duty and well respected when Run Silent was published and made into a movie. That fame cost him admirals stars from a (jealous) silent service who considered that a distraction.

@Humbledore @AncientSubHunt I read so very many of his novels as a teen back in the 60s. In the last few years, Iโve revisited several, and gotten so much more from them. He really was a most talented writer.
