👉 Lend full EU support to international scrutiny & justice including the UN Fact-Finding Mission, @UNHumanRights & @IntlCrimCourt .👉 Ensure a robust, unified & concrete strategy for EU action for human rights in Venezuela.👉 Act at the EU-CELAC summit 9-10 November.

👉 Urge authorities to disclose their fate and whereabouts & release all those arbitrarily detained (including dual nationals from France, Hungary, Italy, Spain).👉 Reinforce support to Venezuelan rights defenders, journalists & civil society inside & outside the country.

The EU should act for those forcibly disappeared & arbitrarily detained in Venezuela and support consistent international scrutiny and mechanisms to deliver justice for these crimes:.👉 Press the authorities up to highest level to end violations, including enforced disappearances.

Our recent @amnesty report concluded that enforced disappearances are part of a widespread and systematic attack on the civilian population - particularly those the Venezuela authorities consider dissidents - and could constitute crimes against humanity.

It's been a year since the disputed 2024 presidential election that led to increasing repression across Venezuela. Spiraling violations in the country - and their grave human impact - should be a wake-up call for the EU to redouble action for human rights.

Our takeaway? It's a positive entry point to.👉Further expand the scope of goods prohibited by the EU, by adding direct contact electric shock devices & multiple-projectile ammunition.👉Aim for more ambitious regulations in the EU & worldwide-including a Torture-Free Trade Treaty.

This welcome change in EU policy reflects how torture and other ill-treatment happen in detention and on the street, including repression of protesters. We @amnesty have documented severe injury and death from state misuse of law enforcement equipment.

📢Last week the EU expanded its pioneering Anti-Torture Regulation, adding more equipment used for torture and other ill-treatment to the trade ban and control lists – a key move to protect detainees, protesters and human rights defenders.

No transparency should mean no deployment - if you can’t explain how a system works or who it harms it has no place in law enforcement or migration control.
