My latest op-ed in @dclinenews: https://t.co/KixgAAb4tx I’ve spent the last 5 years on the @DCSBOE focused on #literacy. The latest CAPE results show it’s paying off: more DC students are reading on grade level than ever before!

Five years of steady work -- structured #literacy laws, teacher training, and collaborative investments -- are paying off. Shout out to my Ward 2 Councilmember @CMBrookePinto for working with me to turn educator feedback into real policy results. https://t.co/KixgAAawDZ

READ: @DCSBOE's @AllisterChang on DC’s literacy investments that are showing results 📚👏 It's thanks to evidence-based reforms + strong leadership, more students are reading at grade level. Still work ahead, but progress is real. #DCStudentsSucceed

DC can lead by making literacy a K-12 priority, not just K-3. Expanding @OSSEDC's Early Literacy Task Force’s work into middle & high school would answer the call we heard in testimony last night and give all students critical #literacy tools.

🔑 Teach disciplinary literacy: Reading in science isn’t the same as reading in history. Every content teacher should help students tackle texts in their field.

Too often we stop #literacy work after 3rd grade. But older readers need just as much support -- across every subject. As we heard in @DCSBOE testimony last night, expanding early literacy efforts into middle & high school is critical.
