Glad to be enrolling older women in our TReatment of Incontinence for Underlying Physical and Mental Health (TRIUMPH) trial—it’s time to study medication effects beyond the bladder:

Glad to discuss the evidence for efficacy and safety of newer non-hormonal treatments for hot flashes with @lindseybever at @washingtonpost, who highlights the need for affordable and well-tolerated options for women with debilitating symptoms:.
Estrogen therapy remains the most effective treatment for menopausal vasomotor symptoms, but our @JAMAInternalMed insights article describes evidence-based non-hormonal treatment options for women who are not candidates for or wish to avoid hormones:.

Hot flashes can be emotionally distressing for midlife women—but will treating hot flashes improve mood?. Clinicians caring for women with both hot flashes and mood symptoms should consider other factors affecting psychological function. @MenopauseJrnl .

Delighted to have collaborated with @MenopauseOrg's @StephFaubionMD and @JAMAInternalMed's Deborah Grady to review the available evidence, including about newer nonhormonal treatment options for vasomotor symptoms, such as neurokinin-3 receptor antagonists.
While hormone therapy is the most effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms, nonhormonal options like SSRIs/SNRIs, gabapentin, and oxybutynin offer modest efficacy.

A great loss—one of the very few, and definitely one of the most impactful, large-scale prospective studies conducted by the NIH to improve our understanding and management of aging and chronic disease in women in the U.S.
Every woman, I repeat, every woman of every age, every color, every political affiliation should condemn this, should raise their voice about this, should be terrified about this. Just a few short months ago women’s health advocates were optimistic for the first time in.

One group of women receiving little attention in menopause research is South Asians. But as shown by our new @ClimactericIMS report from the @masala_study, women of South Asian ancestry may undergo natural menopause earlier than other women in the USA: .

Saddened by the loss of this landmark NIH program that introduced me to health science more than 30 years ago. I remember with gratitude the NIH intramural scientists who patiently taught me—and who were themselves models of industry, creativity, camaraderie, and frugality.
NEW: The NIH has cancelled its summer internship program, according correspondence we've obtained. 1,100 up-and-coming scientists (some of whom had already been accepted into the program) are out of luck.

Smart, sharp dissent from @drlorenmell: "Weak arguments from strong voices also do our field a disservice.". Not only the quality of science but also the quality of scientific critique matters—especially right now when distrust of medical science is at an all-time high.
A guest post that critiques our cofounders' recent piece in @TheAtlantic
