Little known transit fact: if the PATH is on time even once on a Saturday afternoon, the creature that sleeps under the Hudson river will awaken and unleash his terrible wrath We thank @PATHTrain for keeping him at bay π«‘

Shout out to the pro-admin accounts on my newsfeed for apparently keeping quiet their sophisticated strategic rationale for why war with Iran is good until this very day. Must have taken a lot of discipline not to post about this thing you clearly know and care a lot about.

The stars of Heated Rivalry have been subjected to levels of "objectification" by female and gay fans that would have made 1960s radical feminists shoot Andy Warhol were they directed toward women

Tbh I'm perpetually insulted on behalf of straight guys tbh, for whom any crude statement of attraction is objectification while literally everybody outside of that identity can basically exist in perpetual AWOOGA levels of publicly horny with no repercussions.
I'm not going to pretend to be "insulted", but when straight men express their attraction to lesbian sex they get called lecherous pervs meanwhile we're meant to clap for this?

people also very commonly cut down their trees as they get older and maintaining them becomes more of a problem. my parents had 5 trees on a ~half acre lot when i was growing up. zero now
I sincerely believe if we had tree cover everywhere people would talk about American suburbs as dreamy landscapes almost like how they talk about European cities. But suburban yard culture despises tree cover.

I hope the beer garden at this location gets one last season. Unironically love that place
We are excited to share our plans to build a new, state-of-the-art global headquarters at 2 World Trade Center, reaffirming our companyβs deep commitment to Lower Manhattan. Read more about this announcement here: https://t.co/0w5bfp5bqx

Writing about the BAFTAs controversy, I was initially more sympathetic to Davidson but also willing to concede that maybe this was a "difficult for all involved" situation Then I discovered *why* Davidson was in the audience, and my soul left my god damn body

Why would an apology make you feel better if the person has literally no ability to keep it from happening in the future, aside from removing himself from society?
He should not apologize for his disability. But having this disability does not mean permanent immunity from the harm caused by what you say to people. The tone of his apology is off-putting and reads like: I left, what else do you want me to do? Apologizing to MJB and Delroy

using slurs to denigrate the people they apply to is something we correctly outlawed as part of a healthy polite society, and by flattening all utterances to the same level of harm, we've accomplished only weakening that taboo, not bolster it.

the use/mention distinction was one of the dumbest casualties of the summer of 2020. can anyone say that getting rid of it has accomplished anything, or made anyone feel safer? every liberal who can see how silly this tourette's episode is should say that loudly

it's also transparently untrue. the word exists simultaneously in a superposition of both EXTREME context-dependence and utterly lacking. the identity of the person saying it can apparently change the entirety of how it harms a person, but not intent? cmon!
I feel like an anthropologist from Mars when it comes to the N-word. People describe hearing it β not sensing the intent behind it, *hearing* it β in strikingly physical terms. The word alone is sufficient for an enormous reaction. This is something I have difficulty imagining.

why do gay guys keep getting blamed for choosing how women they would never fuck look??
20 years ago the beauty standard was set by the gay men who run the fashion industry and it was the body of a 14 year old boy. The internet has made it much harder to deny that heterosexual men are attracted to female attributes.
