I have been blown away by the level of support for Pancreatic Cancer research! Tonight we will be lighting up our house purple in support of Pancreatic Cancer research (like this shot) and I’m also running 100kms - including another 10kms today. #PCUK https://t.co/0j1NOQS3Lu

@BBCNews⁩ you may want to fact check the story Johnson allies to be criticised over Partygate probe. Particularly “The cross-party committee has seven members, of which four are Tory MPs, two Labour and two from the Scottish National Party.”4+2+2> 7

Another small excess this week (3%) takes 2023 year-to-date mortality rates to the same level as in 2021. The pattern is very different though. 2021 had a severe peak followed by below average Spring mortality. 2023 had a smaller peak but followed by a consistent weekly excess.

CMI calculates 176,200 excess deaths in the UK since the start of the pandemic. That total has increased by 24,800 in the first 23 weeks of 2023. Cumulative mortality rates YTD are 4.0% of a full year’s mortality worse than 2019. That is similar to this point in 2021. 2/3

My new article for the @LCP_Actuaries conference magazine discusses the legacy of the pandemic. @pearsonstuttard and I expect widening inequality and increased mortality directly from COVID and from delays in diagnosis and treatment of serious illnesses. https://t.co/bVNpvimoBu

Last week #JohnLewis (the shop, not the person!) forced me over to a new credit card as they stopped providing the previous one. First weekend using it and they have blocked my card …for no apparent reason. I guess that’s #progress 🤔

Very glad that LCP is able to support this campaign to ensure mothers receive state pension https://t.co/impsahFkfc (It’s a shame that it has to be explained that LCP is not making money out of providing this support … but I guess that is the world we find ourselves in!)

Excited with how hot the de-risking market is right now. I have a number of transactions on the go, which will hopefully settle later in the year. For now, the LCP de-risking team are celebrating this deal (by getting some new pencils and pads of paper...)

Given we now know who will be the next Prime Minister, the LibDems should court Rishi to be their next leader. Good for him, Great for the LibDems, and transformational for the UK. Obviously, it will never happen…! #PoliticsLive #LibDems #RishiSunak

I’ve been a big fan of “Journey Planning” for DB pensions for a decade now. I’m delighted that our “Chart Your Own Course” report brings to life the framework we use at LCP to help our clients follow strong, successful strategic journey plans. Great stuff!

SouthWestern Railways were being very tough tonight on “you have to be on the train 30 seconds before departure time” … which might be an acceptable policy if their clocks weren’t 45 seconds behind the internet version of GMT+1hr. If you’re going to be dogmatic, sync your clock!
