Our main conclusion is that fiber photometry should not be interpreted as a proxy for spiking activity, but instead as showing bulk changes in nonsomatic calcium. This opens up big opportunities for and challenges assumptions of the interpretation of fiber photometry experiments.

Surprisingly, we found calcium fiber photometry activity shows a distinct behavior from spiking activity during both spontaneous, and behaviorally-evoked activity. Instead, it reflects primarily nonsomatic changes in calcium.

What features would you like to see in a python package for fiber photometry signal processing? I have a module that a few labs have found useful. I'm thinking about refining and expanding it, and to make it public. The emphasis is to make it as simple to use as possible.
