THIS!!! I have been saying this for the past two weeks. Feigning good-faith diplomacy while approving attacks by a US proxy, then opening the door again to negotiation and immediately launching airstrikes makes us appear treacherous, imperialist, and weakens US soft power.
Abstracting away from the nuclear issue for a second: Bombing countries while pretending to negotiate with them is major blow to our diplomatic credibility.
