I'm no expert on healthcare, but I can imagine two political economy angles: 1) The medical community will fight these changes with all they've got. 2) Will cutting this spending lead to hospital closures in low-income / rural areas?

Here’s about $2 trillion, if you did the most aggressive version of each policy: 1) prevent Medicare Advantage ‘upcoding’ 2) pay hospitals the same as doctors offices 3) prevent states and hospitals from colluding to inflate their federal Medicaid match 4) end Medicare Advantage

For the record - because several people have asked me abt this story - our dept has not had any meetings discussing internships. And Im happy to help our students find internships in Rep. Moulton's office and every Rep's office, regardless of their political views.

Election was not about losses on the left: - Harris disproportionately lost moderate & conservative voters won by Biden, not liberals - No big loss of liberals in the electorate & no big migration to 3rd parties - Moderate House & Senate candidates outperformed prez candidates

Cook County Judge Shannon O'Malley is in danger of losing retention. Judge O'Malley previously made the news when he changed his name to be Irish after he lost a judge election with his birth name "Phillip Spiwak."

Agree with nearly every argument that Harris has to be the replacement if there is one. And it seems to me part of the problem of Biden’s age has always been that his VP is less popular than he is.

I think Jon’s argument here is to a degree a straw man. He says at the bottom that the half dozen or so stakeholders in this conversation need to pick the best candidate. And if it’s Harris, he says, great, off to the races. His argument here seems to be…

Grad students can’t criticize junior profs because they need jobs. Junior profs can’t criticize because there’s little reward for tenure. Senior profs can’t criticize because it’s punching down.

I can't argue in good faith that the 435 members of the US House are the best candidates we could choose. But I am confident that by expanding the House, the next 435, or more, would be worse, on average, on every possible dimension.

As far as I know, only parties and candidates have legal access to the voter file in Illinois (which is a terrible law, but nevertheless). So how is this website operating in Illinois?

Caleb Williams is bad in lots of ways. But the fact he doesn’t seem to know where to find his RB to hand the ball off is a unique one.
