No it is not. Reject this line of thinking at all cost. The health of our cities depends on them being places that are both safe and are perceived as such. Without this, they are doomed.

Apartment infill Friday: a simple eight story building replaces a gas station at the corner of Troost and Armour. Part of a four building 360 unit project on all four corners of the intersection. 2015->2024

Donors need to really check the fine print to make sure that the housing groups they’re funding don’t Everything Bagel new housing production out of existence.

My plan as governor of California is pretty simple: Tackle the cost of living crisis—or get the hell out of the way.

JUST IN: @AnthropicAI is in talks for decade+ lease for building near Salesforce Park. Most new leases by nascent AI startups have been short-term, so Anthropic deal would be a big sign of confidence for AI & SF's struggling office market. @sfchronicle https://t.co/TwgiugVzo8

In a multi-story office or residential building, I’d use the "elbow" to group "core" functions—elevators, stairs, MEP risers, storage, and so on. For a strip mall, that same spot could be perfect for shared back-of-house space that supports all the retail tenants.

The toughest space in any strip center is the “elbow.” It has almost no visibility, barely any frontage, and it’s always the hardest space to lease. In your underwriting, you often have to assume zero rent for the elbow - sometimes even negative rent if you’re the one covering

What's your hot take on construction that will have everyone doing this? I'll go first. Construction projects/decision making are often led by emotion, ego, and/or vibes...even when people think they're playing hardball and being super objective and just "looking at numbers."

Helsinki 🇫🇮 doesn’t get nearly enough credit. It’s the only non-Scandinavian Nordic capital—and it feels different. Moody, modern, minimalist. A vibe all its own.

living in austin you feel this; the people of the city nominate ppl on the council who want to do all sorts of SF-style things. but the state intervenes over and over to keep them in check no complaints

The story of Pizza 4P's is crazy: It is a super popular pizza chain 🍕 that is essentially a Japanese 🇯🇵 take on Italian 🇮🇹 cuisine, popularized in Vietnam 🇻🇳, and now expanding to NYC 🇺🇸 https://t.co/wikYVEhU1s

Apartment living isn’t for everyone—but lots of people gladly trade space and a yard to be closer to big job markets, culture, and urban energy. And that’s the beauty of the U.S.: it’s huge, with endless suburban and rural options for anyone who wants a different vibe.

This speaks so much to me. I have the EXACT same experiences out here on the West Coast, @mwmoedinger And like you, I am not going to stop telling the truth to potential clients because reputation matters, even if it means missing out on business.

Me telling potential clients the truth about construction prices means we lose a lot of work to people who have no problem lying to get in the door. Especially these days. People say they want the truth, but generally most people just want their biases confirmed.
