🗣️ More research is not needed; action is needed. Action to reduce poverty can be taken almost immediately. @MichaelMarmot and @bmj_latest recommend introducing the Essentials Guarantee into Universal Credit to ensure everyone can afford the essentials: https://t.co/KCJxn4N0Mc

Families left with ‘nothing’ as cost of living payments fail to cover essentials: ‘My bank account is empty’ Joseph & Nanda from @changing_r spoke to @BigIssue @IsabellaMcrae about how temporary measures are not enough for families living on a low income https://t.co/De9C7q7GNz

Cost of living payments have not been enough to help benefits claimants, particularly large families who have had to stretch it further.

Today’s fall in inflation brings no sense of relief to millions of low-income families. Even after this fall, prices are still far higher than they were last year. People are still having to go to great lengths just to afford everyday essentials and many are going without. 🧵

Huge thanks to our speakers. Prof Rod Hick explored housing and poverty trends across Europe including the absolute and relative changes for people in the rental sector. Dr Caitlin Robinson then talked about energy poverty and its intersections with various social factors #PFRC25

Hardship just continues to grow and grow. New @TrussellTrust stats show 1.5m emergency food parcels were given out in between Apr to Sept, 16% more than the same time last year. Where was the plan to address destitution in the Kings Speech? https://t.co/yztM4doEy4

The group are busy doing the ‘Head body legs’ exercise, thinking about how poverty effects different parts of the body. Some insightful but harrowing suggestions that represent the reality for some people in #Hartlepool.
