Your claim only works for an arbitrary concept of modernity, what Marxists identify as capitalism, which is certainly not going beyond Hegel.

Hegel is clear what mind is for him, and what the Idea really is. There is no "necessity" for physical embodiment any more than there is a necessity for Nature. One is confused by language when they think life in the logic has anything to do with materially instantiated life.

Deleuze says that the event or encounter are beyond conscious control, and that only they occasion thought. Hegel's response would be that thought is the source of its own event from within, thus the cunning of reason. It is not intended, but it is the consequence of itself.
