It’s often thought that Benjamin is proposing an alternative to Hegel’s philosophy of history when he opposes a “history of the vanquished” to the “history of the victors,” governed as it is by a whiggish principle of progress. But this is actually what Hegel was already doing.1/

Look, the only genuine street philosophers were a Greek ugly hobo named Socrates with a large following who felt it was edgy to be rational, and another Greek smelly hobo that lived in a barrel, trolled everyone, and jerked it in town square. Most people hated them.

Pippin has referred to his own notion of the Logic as a “critical logic” - for good reason. The problem with Pippin’s approach is that he fails to grasp Hegel’s logical point that apperceptive spontaneity must be organically embodied. This is Hegel’s radical materialism. 2/

Most art is garbage because the artist is consciously trying to *make* something they have already decided should happen in the artwork, and so it is impossible to escape the appearance of the artist's subjective will in the artwork, of their form forcing its content.

Modernity is the time of the Concept. You can't get beyond it, you can only fall out of it or get deeper into it. Your claim only works for an arbitrary concept of modernity, what Marxists identify as capitalism, which is certainly not going beyond Hegel.

And ultimately, of course, Joyce is not just “Hegel for literature.” Joyce embodies and expresses the limits of the unity of mind and world and the “awareness of freedom” under late capitalist imperialist conditions. Joyce points beyond modernity - and thus beyond Hegel. 7/7

Language and thought are not the same. Those who declare there is no thought without language also mistake language to be sensuous symbolism, pointing to the empiricism of language acquisition. If language must be referred to, then thought is its own unsensible symbol.

My buddy has not been doing well the last three weeks. Many vet visits and exams unable to determine what exactly is wrong. I hope he has happier days ahead.

Hegel is clear what mind is for him, and what the Idea really is. There is no "necessity" for physical embodiment any more than there is a necessity for Nature. One is confused by language when they think life in the logic has anything to do with materially instantiated life.

You don't understand how much of a genius Hegel was until you try to take a set of a few dozen categories he wasn't working with from another tradition and start seeing what order they immanently take. When there just aren't enough categories, or when there are duplicates...

Deleuze says that the event or encounter are beyond conscious control, and that only they occasion thought. Hegel's response would be that thought is the source of its own event from within, thus the cunning of reason. It is not intended, but it is the consequence of itself.

Miss my fat boi. He's been very depressed since he hasn't been living with me since May. Don't know when I'll be able to have him again, but I worry about him.
