Arguably the coolest PhD project ever. We are so excited to see these reef mantas getting detected on so many of our receivers positioned on #SouthAfrica's east coast!.

This little project on eagle rays has seen our equipment slowly creeping up the west coast of #SouthAfrica, which has always been a bit of a dead zone for us. In the words of Hannibal Smith, 'We love it when a plan comes together!' .#TeamFish #telemetry.

Michelle Soekoe & team (Reel Science Co.), with @ATAP_ZA, have deployed the 1st acoustic receiver array on the west coast of South Africa. Strategically placed from St Helena to Velddrif, they are a major milestone for telemetry in the region.

The most incredible result is that one individual moved almost 500 km from its tagging site, which is the largest movement EVER recorded for a benthic undulatory ray in the entire world! Isn’t technology amazing?!.📷Helen Walne.#telemetry #marinescience #SouthAfrica
