Cell line engineering PhD opportunity for cultivated meat! A very cool chance to work with the excellent Josh Flack (former head of cell biology @mosa_meat) on projects which fire 👏 me 👏 up 👏.

I want to try spray-drying a protein solution, but it's expensive to test. Does anybody have good preliminary experiments to run on proteins to see if they're at all amenable to spray-drying? Trying to decrease the risk of spending the $$$ unnecessarily. Thanks!🤗.

Goals: 1) emphasize how GM can help enable cell ag, 2) discuss consumer/regulatory considerations around GM and how they are evolving, and 3) convince the audience to watch the 1997 classic Good Burger so that my Mondo Burger references have a sufficiently appreciative audience.

Registration is still open for the 9th International Scientific Conference on Cultured Meat! I'll be talking about genetic engineering for cultured meat and (as always) why Mondo Burger had it right.

Today marks 10 years from the world's first ever public tasting of cultured meat! Lost my photos from the event but held on to this guy. Not sure if I'm more affected by the timeframe or the fact that I've still never eaten any 😅

10 years ago I was one month into a summer internship in @Markpost's cultured meat lab, and ~2 months away from the first ever cultured beef tasting in London. Honestly pretty emotional to hear today's news about @UPSIDEfoods & @GOODMeat's USDA approval. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!.

The study that this headline is based on is a pre-print, and the claim is based on the authors' assumptions that media inputs require purification analogous to the pharma industry:

@ACSSynBio (and if you've already asked and things are stalled or I've failed to follow up, please let me know! I've been trying to keep track of it all, but worry that some may have fallen through the cracks as they go through MTAs, shipping cells, etc.).

Here it is in @ACSSynBio🐄🥩📱♾ - Immortalized bovine muscle cells for cultured meat R&D. LMK if you'd like to use these in your research! We're working on depositing in a cell bank for all to use, but in the meantime academics can request a vial.

Immortalized bovine satellite cells out now in biorxiv🐄 Motivated by a desire to get away from c2c12s or primary cells as the only options for our research, hopefully these can be a useful tool for the field.

Here, we engineer satellite cells to not need FGF2 in the culture medium. There's still a lot of work to go on this premise, but hopefully it's a useful start for using cell line engineering to reduce cultured meat media costs.
