Back in January we called upon @MertonLabour Council bosses to back police stations and offices in the heart of the community because this "means police are more visible, which is key in building trust, and can get to incidents far .more quickly." . They blocked that proposal

The Mayor's draft police and crime plan states “Local engagement and treatment – the feeling that the police listen, understand and deal with issues that matter to communities; and are helpful, friendly, approachable, fair and respectful -is the strongest driver of confidence”.

Most striking conversation I had was with a Victory Road resident who usually votes Labour, but was so deeply uninspired with what Labour in power - locally and nationally- delivers, that he will no longer vote.

The councillor in charge admitted that the financial position was confusing - although the St Helier repair bill is huge. What can't be justified is the Labour spin and PR that in some way the rather small amount of cash put in was some massive victory by them.
