My dad died of cancer this February. His last trip to London with me, less than a year ago, was to remember his dad, who died April 2020. It took that long because unlike those on the other side of the river, we followed the rules.

ONS deaths data has been released for week ending 9 Dec. 999 more deaths were recorded in-week compared to the 2015-19 average. That’s 9% more, a similar excess to last week. Year-to-date there have been 540,460 deaths recorded which is 8% more than the 2015-19 avg.
