If you were serious about cutting costs one of the first things you would look at would surely be your own completely unnecessary freebies, fuel allowances, subsidised food and drink, expenses allowance. Labour did none of this but went straight for pensioners.

When the council pays a private company to collect its bins, it has to pay AT LEAST what the company pays to its employees, plus covering the company's uniform+vehicle costs and costs of doing business, plus a profit on top for shareholders. Why not just pay the worker directly?
