Here’s the issue with a 50 vs 30 yr mortgage on a $400K loan. Lowers monthly payment by $376 which will attract some but you’ll pay $366K more in interest over life of loan and over $1.25MM total. Stop the madness.

50 year mortgage is another way to gaslight younger generations. They don’t make a house any cheaper they just prolong your debt. They are a bad idea. We need more housing not longer mortgages.

It would be much better for Elon to invest that money in new businesses that create jobs so more people have meaningful work. Having so many people on food stamps is a sign of policy failure not success.

Elon Musk’s new pay package would feed all forty million Americans on SNAP for the next ten years. He wouldn’t notice the difference but the country would.

Good point. Affordability also means more supply not juicing demand and constraining supply.

Affordability is a winning campaign message. However, the problems have been accumulating for decades. The solutions will take time as well. It's important not to overpromise short term results. The best time to start this work was a generation ago. The second best time is now.

The legal arguments for ending Trump's #tariffs are solid. #SCOTUS should also take comfort in most Americans think #tariffs hurt their finances. Despite what the admin. says, there's sound legal footing and public support for ending the tariffs.

Some good ideas for reforming @fema so it works better at a lower cost to federal taxpayers.

Great story from @yimbyaction about how they helped get #California SB 79 over the finish line. Policy change is a team sport and this is a great example of getting the right folks involved to make it happen. #zoning #housing

Happy 90th birthday to Charles Koch! Earlier this year he was awarded the Friedman Prize from the ⁦@CatoInstitute⁩. Charles has been an inspiration to countless people working to make America freer and to unleash the potential in all of us.

Raising the retirement age won’t fix Social Security either—the hole is deep folks—but it’s a real idea that recognizes the tradeoffs we face. We need more politicians to acknowledge there are no easy fixes.

I support bold reforms to Social Security to guarantee its long-term solvency. With Americans living longer, real change is non-negotiable. That’s why I’ve proposed raising the full retirement age to 70—a necessary step to keep Social Security sustainable for future

Getting rid of the #filibuster to pass a CR is so unbelievably shortsighted. GOP would open the door to all kinds of bad policies-green new deal, Medicare for all, DC statehood-to pass something as mundane as a CR. It'd be one of the dumbest mistakes in policy history.

One concern I have about shifting property #tax to another tax is obscuring the real tax burden. A recent study finds evidence for this in #NorthDakota. Education spending ⬆️ after state took on more funding responsibility in exchange for lower prop taxes https://t.co/YjVSR8fQtJ

We should bring back mandatory retirement for tenured professors. It clears out deadwood and creates room for a new scholars. Tenure without it allows too many unproductive people to linger.

Another study finds #tariffs on #steel reduce employment at firms that use steel as an input & don't raise employment in steel industry. Also lead to exits of steel-intensive #manufacutring. Supporting steel tariffs hurts US manufacturing. @scottlincicome https://t.co/mqM2ahrh0z

.@HawleyMO has no problem taxing consumers w/ #tariffs then redirecting their tax dollars to get the farmer voter. Protecting special interests is a DC specialty. Of course this does nothing to make food cheaper for ordinary folks. https://t.co/SW2SEVYnNB

My gym sends a periodic note that I may quality to use HSA funds for my membership dues. This seems like it should be allowed as the standard. We know exercise is one of the best things you can do for your health. Want to MAHA? Let us use HSA money for gyms!

This is actually a good thing! I’m not in favor of minimum wages but regardless the federal govt was never the appropriate level of govt to set one. Much better to let states decide.

The Federal minimum wage was established in 1938. It was in effect for about 85 years. It has now, for better or worse, been effectively abolished.

Bernie is a broken record. He doesn’t think hard about costs, tradeoffs or incentives. He’s an unserious person who pushes slogans as policy. He’s not unique among senators unfortunately but nonetheless he’s unhelpful.
