Reminder on Global Accessibility Awareness Day: accessibility is everyone's responsibility. Start by making your social media content accessible. Add alt text to images. Caption your videos. Camel Case your hashtags. Use emojis in moderation. Don't use fancy fonts. #GAAD

The #BlackHistoryMonth honoree for February 10, 2024 is Dr. Zohra Aziza Baccouche. Dr. Baccouche (November 25, 1976 - June 11, 2021) was the first African-American woman to earn a PhD in physics in the entire state of Maryland. #NSBP #BHM https://t.co/eAykOyP9uI

Hi all, one of our co-founders is in a physics & astronomy department threatened with elimination, please sign the petition! @AliciaAarnio has been working hard on accessible astronomy at @UNCGphysics and with the AAS for years, it would be a big loss for her students (and us!)

ICYMI, shout-outs in here to us and a couple of our co-founders! Sonification is a way to render data that opens astronomy to more people and gives us another way to engage with the universe. We love multimodal access👏 #DisabilityPrideMonth

A group of astronomers are turning celestial data into almost musical sequences of sounds to make space images more accessible to a wider audience that includes visually impaired people.

Attention #AAS241: as we depart and return home, I hope we all remain COVID-free. However, if you do test positive, please, even though the meeting is over, (anonymously) report your case here so that we can know how we did as a society.

As we depart a phenomenal #AAS241, we're grateful to all of you for respecting our COVID policy and (of course) one another. ♥️ We are using this form to collect (hopefully rare!) positive COVID test data. We will release all *anonymized* numbers. (1/n) https://t.co/4G6tkmw9s7

Please fill out this survey to provide feedback about accessibility at #AAS241! This includes such things as the mask mandate and hybrid meeting. This helps inform @AAS_WGAD so we can collate responses to help future meetings. https://t.co/Phk81iehwT

There are many ways to explore the cosmos. @chandraxray’s Tactile Universe provides materials that are accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired through Braille, tactile techniques, 3D printing, audio, and more: https://t.co/H3WtbQ3Jix #WorldBrailleDay

Happy #WorldBrailleDay! Louis Braille, a blind teacher, invented the tactile reading system used by millions of #blind people. #Braille exists in multiple languages, from Amharic to Korean. It typically appears as raised dots on paper, but you can braille almost anywhere! 1/3

“I started realizing that every time I was given an accommodation or was in a space w/accessibility, I was able to accomplish my goals, and frankly, live like a regular teen. It made me realize that my body is not a barrier; society's lack of access is.”
