Because of that, they developed a questionnaire assessing SSA and are now approaching the data collection stage. They aim to evaluate the prevalence of SSA globally, spanning multiple countries and cultures.

Their decision to conduct this research was born from the absence of a universal definition of what constitutes harmful sexual experiences between siblings and a taboo surrounding sibling behaviors which lend to minimization and disbelief, which impedes research efforts.
