At the same time… there’s so many great startups here employing lots of talented people doing interesting work and maybe I’m just looking at disruption of legacy companies which is just Tech at its best rather than something existential. My two cents.

Caveat that I’ve never been great at understanding some of the corporate euphemisms, but it feels a little like staring into the abyss for some corporate jobs. I’ve resisted this feeling for a long time believing productivity gains beget corporate abundance, but I’m reassessing

They are by and large talking about large scale job loss, but I think in some ways they are talking about it amongst themselves. How many employees does a Chief People Officer need if compensation reporting and payroll and retirement and other benefits are handled?

Your HR professional has likely gone to two conferences in Vegas over the last two weeks. The themes of the panel discussions at these conferences are 90% about AI. It is a bit concerning to me when I hear the speakers say “we need to think about how to ethically implement this”

Where do I see myself in 5 years? What a great question, god-willing at a corporate conference in Vegas shaking hands with hopeful startups and having drinks with legacy providers as we all work to improve the technology stack for corporate America.

What a weird criticism here. The market almost always has its best days when times are not great. Missing those days is ruinous for your investments.
Shocking. The head of the world’s largest asset management firm, whose firm’s primary jobs is to invest on behalf of clients, tells people to stay in the markets.

If I could give one piece of advice to the world it is that the moment someone at your table game in Vegas asks the pit to check the cameras grab every chip you have and leave as quickly as humanly possible

It’s shocking how many airport advertisements are for AI companies

I know I’m getting old because people keep buying me books as presents, but the best two I read in the past year are Bright Lights Big City and Cameron Crowe’s memoirs “The Uncool”

Are any of my followers going to be at HR Transform in Vegas this week or DCIIA Innovation Forum in Newport? Would love to meet

Since all the big hitters are endorsing @401Casey I thought I’d share my piece. An absolute savant when it comes to municipal bonds and now is venturing into reimagining the 401k space. That’s table stakes he’s also genuinely an incredible human being. Give him a follow.

The best one not advertised is concierge health care. Literally have people at Mayo or Andersen or Sloan Kettering on speed dial 24/7. Also evacuation services (medical or kidnap retrieval) by Blackwater types.
It’s an open secret that some financial advisors can do a lot more for you than help determine your asset allocation, but it’s not generally discussed this openly

I’ll leave you with this: go look up any bank and find their posts about ‘next-gen’. Small tip of the iceberg of what they will help you with to retain your assets for generations.

This to me is some of the real magic that can come from ostensibly transactional relationships and it is what drove my passion for wealth management in the first place.

If you need a college recommendation, or a contact at the US embassy where your child’s studying abroad, or some founder/crlebrity to talk to your kid and straighten them out about capitalism, these are things readily-ish available

Disclaimer here that I’m speaking generally from friends and not from any experience of my own. But if you are worth 500mm and have three wealth managers and want your kid to work in investment banking it’s worthwhile to ask all three what they can do for you

Most wealthy people have a variety of wealth managers they use, ostensibly because some have better FX rates or better bond desks or what have you, but I think the real reason people diversify (or concentrate) is based on what an advisor can do for their children

Private school, private colleges, internships, jobs, the right fraternity, the right spring break, safety while traveling abroad, leniency from childhood misdemeanors, etc. these are the differentiating services.
