A real insight from Michael Gove and Harry Scoffin info what leaseholders are up against. in a true democracy, the Treasury would treat us citizens as the horse they don't want to scare.
“The ECHR is to protect the vulnerable, ideally, against an abuse of power, but what we’ve got here is the powerful abusing the vulnerable.” @michaelgove makes the pro-leaseholder case for leaving the ECHR. And more! All in our new podcast, Generation Screwed 👇

Lord Gove and I have differing views on almost everything but I will happily concede that he's been a better advocate for leaseholders than any @UKLabour minister who's followed him in office. With hindsight, I wish he'd had a bit more time.
On our way back from an interview with @michaelgove. The former Secretary of State was on fiery form. Labour, leasehold, the Rule of Lawyers and a generation screwed. Coming soon!

Inightful interview exposing the real source of resistance to abolishing leasehold in 🏴🏴 If ‘insurgent’ @UKLabour don’t abolish leasehold it’s cos they’re jelly-back castrati servile to Big Freehold willing to throw 5.3mn leaseholders who want to own their homes under the bus

.@michaelgove weighs in. Time is now for @10DowningStreet @Keir_Starmer @SteveReedMP @UKLabour to be BOLD. Leasehold has been utterly exploited turning homes into financial prisons. Financial, social & political consequences of this are far greater than a few £bil in Ground Rent!

Govt. refusal to back meaningful ground rent cap even after their High Court win. Why @UKLabour (elected to serve on a promise made to MILLIONS of trapped leaseholders) so inclined to bend to vested interests and green light rent seeking? @SteveReedMP @mtpennycook @RachelReevesMP
EXCLUSIVE @theipaper - leasehold campaigners fear Labour will "betray" millions of homeowners by backing down on capping "onerous" ground rents ££ amid Treasury nervousness about freeholders. Former Housing Sec Michael Gove told me it is "preposterous" https://t.co/liFRek6BeL

@wdz8p2ym92 @FreeLeasehlders @mtpennycook Leaseholders accepted the u-turn on the 100 day pledge. But in return we expected Labour to prioritise this agenda in the second session. How many leaseholders would have voted for other parties if they said it would be a 4-5 year commitment before the election?

Infuriating to read this. The Minister and his outriders have been gaslighting leaseholders, somehow suggesting we are being unreasonable and clamouring for botched policymaking. Wrong. We hold them to account for promises they have made. This agenda needs prioritising!
This afternoon Michael Gove stated from the despatch box that the second part of legislation to reform the leasehold system would be published in the next parliamentary session. That's too long to wait. The government should find time this session to overhaul this feudal system.

YES! You slayed it! The @LibDems should return to this agenda, especially after the manifesto pledged leasehold abolition. @EdwardJDavey is responsible for the renewed interest, having co-founded the APPG. A great differentiator issue like health and social care.
@HarryScoffin @AngelaRayner @mtpennycook @UKLabour @FreeLeasehlders I think it’s time to remind Labour why leasehold needs to be abolished immediately 👇 https://t.co/MGtrMd3E4r And if Labour feels squeamish about it, the @LibDems certainly don’t.

TOO LONG TO WAIT Funny stumbling upon this one! Where is that same urgency for leaseholders from @mtpennycook now he is the Minister? This is a cost of living emergency. Leaseholders do not have 4 to 5 more years.

@HarryScoffin @Stewart__Mills @mb_policy @UKLabour I don't remember him saying it is complicated and will take 4-5 years to deliver in the last Parliament.
If reports that the Tories are abandoning fundamental leasehold reform are true, it will represent the latest broken promise in 13 years of failure. A Labour government would enact the Law Commission’s recommendations on enfranchisement, commonhold and right to manage in full.

Don’t recall @UKLabour using “complicated” excuse back in 2022. Now able to ACT (yet deferring to “consultation”) what are LHers meant to think? Are they stringing out state sanctioned Ponzi as long as possible or are @UKLabour just inept, undeserving of LHer vote they bagged?
I agree with this. Time was of the essence for leaseholders then and it is now. The government must honour its commitment and legislate for further leasehold reform in the next Parliamentary session. @FreeLeasehlders

@2mod2 @mhclg the usual cabal of "lawyers" who get platformed at "committees" & who lead these by the nose to shape leasehold "law" to the benefit of their paymasters even lobbying the Law Commission out of including (pivotal) right to participate in any CFA in the final cut of its 2020 report

@2mod2 @UKLabour @michaelgove Your party knew exactly how complex it was before we voted. You still promised you would do it quickly and we voted you in so that you could. Now what? It’s as if we never had an election! We can trust no one.

This answer is far too vague for my liking. The government needs to honour its commitment and legislate for further leasehold reform in the next parliamentary session.

@sentinel2246 @2mod2 @UKLabour @michaelgove It is pure stonewalling. When they talk about "complexities" (on issues that have been debated and consulted on extensively over many years) what they mean is that they do not know what they are talking about. They are covering up their own ignorance. God help us.

The full interview is worse than the clip LBC put out earlier. What are these complexities that Rayner and Pennycook refuse to elaborate on?
Leaseholders voted for change, not for ministers to echo the talking points of Big Freeholders. @AngelaRayner @mtpennycook Talking up so-called complexities without actually explaining what they are kicks action on leasehold firmly into the long-grass. Thanks @lewis_goodall!
